Washington, PA— Tricky Nick pocketed Barn Girl early, then held her off late to captureWednesday’s (April 19) $18,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred HandicapTrot at The Meadows.
Tricky Nick workedhard to get the lead for Jim Pantaleano but eventually was able to put BarnGirl, seeking her fourth consecutive win, on his bumper. The 5-year-old Band’sGold Chip-Broader Ambition gelding downed Barn Girl by a length in acareer-best 1:54.2 while TSM Photo Bugger raced well first-over for show.Richard Perfido trains Tricky Nick, who lifted his lifetime bankroll to$183,254, for Thomas Mattingly.
Dave Palonepiloted five winners, including three for trainer Ron Burke, on the 13-racecard.
Live racing atThe Meadows resumes Saturday, the final day of the current meeting. Becausepools can’t be carried over to the next meeting beginning May 6, Saturday’sPick-4, Pick-5 and final superfecta of the card are all “must pay.”
Saturday’sprogram features the championship legs of four series for 3-year-olds, whichwill offer total purses of $107,000. First post is 1 p.m.
