Trio of track records at Ballard County (KY) Fair

Lacenter, KY — The temperature may have been over 100 degrees during the Ballard County (KY) Fair this past Saturday (June 12), but the horses proved to be much hotter with three track records being taken throughout the afternoon.

The first came when 2-year-old colt pacer Rockytop Oh Oh crossed the finish line first in 1:59.1 with driver Tyler Shehan. Not only was he the fastest 2-year-old ever at the fairgrounds, but the fastest of any age. The Western Vintage-Sexy Susan colt is owned by David Arboe, Phillip Cotton and Dudley Thompson. Cotton also does the training.

Rockytop Oh Oh’s pacing record didn’t last long, as Single Girl drew off from her rivals in a new track record of 1:56.4 in the 3-year-old filly pace. Randal Jerrell has the training and driving assignments for lessee Janet Banks. The Always A Virgin-My Best Girl filly now has 11 wins from 17 lifetime starts and $60,000 in earnings.

Pass Key and driver Charlie Conrad took the track record for trotters, scoring in 1:59.2, besting the previous record of 2:03.1. It was back-to-back wins for the Cantab Hall-Diamond Peak gelding for owner/trainer Rodney DeBeck. The win was also one of five on the day for driver Conrad.

Next up in the Kentucky Proud Series is the McCracken County Fair on Tuesday (June 22) at 5 p.m. (CDT). Entries must be in by June 19, 10 a.m. (EDT).
