Twenty entered in Hambletonian include two fillies; 16 in Oaks

Cranbury, NJ — Once online entries were closed this morning, there are 18 colts and geldings and two fillies entered in the 97th edition of the $1 million Hambletonian to be raced Saturday (Aug. 6) at The Meadowlands Racetrack. The two fillies entered, Joviality S and Jiggy Jog S, follow 165 previous hopefuls, resulting in 15 filly winners of America’s Trotting Classic, the last being Ramona Hill in 2020.

Two 10 horse eliminations will be contested on Saturday (July 30) to eliminate five horses from each field. Once raced, the elimination winners will draw for post positions 1-5.

There are 16 fillies entered in the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks. Two eight horse eliminations will be contested on Saturday (July 30) to eliminate three horses from each field. Once raced, the elimination winners will draw for post positions 1-5.

Post positions for the Hambletonian and Oaks finals will be drawn on Tuesday (Aug. 2), at a luncheon hosted by Hogan Equine Clinic in Cream Ridge, N.J., from 2-5 p.m.

Elimination splits, post positions and morning lines will be available later this afternoon.

The use of Lasix is not permitted in the Hambletonian or Oaks and all entrants are subject to the retention policy of The Meadowlands Racetrack and the out-of-competition rules cited in the race conditions and by the New Jersey Racing Commission.
