Tyler Smith wins two Ohio Fair Championships

Grove City, OH — Tyler Smith recorded two wins, while seven drivers and eight trainers collected wins in the Ohio Fair Championships at Hollywood Dayton Raceway Saturday (Oct. 9). Each race carried a purse of $40,000.

Smith guided Bittrsweetsymphony to victory in the 2-year-old Filly Pace, charging down the stretch to win by two lengths for trainer Crist Hershberger in 1:52.4. The Well Said filly is 12 for 16 on the year for owners CNC Stables and David Miller.

Smith also collected the win in the 3-year-old Filly Trot with Fiesty Pistol. She shot from the rail, going gate-to-wire to win for the 11th time this year for trainer Chris Beaver in 1:56.3. The daughter of Triumphant Caviar is owned by Beaver, David Meola, Donald Robinson, and R.B.H. Ventures Inc.

In the 2-year-old Filly Trot, Crown Creation with Brett Miller rallied around the final turn and pulled away down the stretch to win by 3-1/2 lengths for trainer Mark Winters in 1:58.3. The win was Crown Creation’s 10th in 15 starts this year. The daughter of Creatine is owned by Benjamin Black.

The combination of Don Irvine Jr. and Rosy Weaver rolled this summer at Ohio fairs, and they did it again in the 2-year-old Colt Trot championship. Irvine, who has driven A Handsome Face in all 13 starts, grabbed the lead just after the quarter pole and held on down the stretch to win for the eighth time this year in a 1:59.2 mile. The Dejarmbro gelding is owned by Weaver and Heartland Acres.

The favorite in the 2-year-old Colt Pace championship, Willydoitagain, did it again, winning for the ninth time this year for Scott Cisco and trainer Dan O’Mara in 1:53.3. Cisco took Willydoitagain three wide before the half-mile mark to grab the lead and held on to win by a neck. Marjorie Polhamus owns the Domethatagain gelding.

Bearcreekhoney with Shawn Barker II won for the tenth time this year to claim the 3-year-old Filly Pace championship. Bearcreekhoney grabbed the lead at the top of the stretch and held on to win the title for trainer Clarence Foulk in 1:53.4. Bearcreekhoney, a Schoolkids filly, is owned by William Hartt.

Malibu Kid and Tony Hall got away slow but grabbed the lead before the half-mile pole and held on down the stretch to win by a half-length in 1:56.2 for trainer Dalton Walls in the 3-year-old Colt Trot championship. The son of Wishing Stone is owned by Walls, Bruce Soulsby, and Alan Weisenberg.

The last championship of the night was the 3-year-old Colt Pace. Imagine It with Mitchell Cushing got up at the wire to win the championship for trainer Kent Wilcox and owner Richard Copp in the fastest championship time of the night, 1:52.2. It was the 12th win of the year for the son of If I Can Dream.
