from the Goshen Yearling Sale
Middletown, NY — The second annual Goshen Yearling Sale took place on Sunday (Sept. 18) at the Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, N.Y. and enjoyed an increased gross of $1,860,200 on 153 yearlings and an average of $12,158 that held steady from the inaugural event.
The highest priced yearling was Hip No. 59, an outstanding RC Royalty colt named Vecellio Hanover who fetched $60,000 from Eugene Kurzrok of Hauppauge, N.Y. Considered a “real-looker” by many, the sale topper was just one of 47 colts and fillies consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms. “The Greatest Name in Harness Racing” was a new addition to the Goshen Sale and helped attract prospective purchasers from all over the Northeast region.
Goshen Sale president Bob Boni noted, “We had an excellent turnout and as anticipated the more fashionable yearlings were extremely well received. The market place is very discerning and I felt the buyers were more than willing to bid on the yearlings that they wanted and we are very grateful to those that participated in our second sale.”
Two individuals brought $40,000 to tie for second highest. Hip No. 84, an RC Royalty colt from L Dees Maggie, consigned by Cameo Hills Farm, was purchased by Dan Daley of Wellington, Fla. The other was Hip No. 136, a Chapter Seven colt from R S Giggles who was consigned by Concord Stud and brought home by Ake Svanstedt of Sebastian K fame who was also the sale’s biggest buyer. He selected and signed for five yearlings for a total of $112,500.
Anthony MacDonald, representing Thestable.ca, was the sale’s next big spender, taking home five prospects for a total of $76,500.
Overall pleased with the results, Boni also stated, “We are especially appreciative of our consignors this year and we look forward to making the sale that much better going forward as we strongly believe it offers a unique opportunity for both buyers and sellers. In addition, we intend to work closely with other industry stakeholders to ensure that potential date conflicts are kept to a minimum.”
