Ft. Washington, MD — Driver John Wagner swept the early daily double on Sunday (April 29) at Rosecroft, winning the $10,000 Open Handicap on the card with Diamondkeeper.
Wagner parlayed a second-over, three-wide trip behind eventual second place finisher and 2-1 favorite Art Of Fire to a two length win at odds of 9-1. Basil Sapienza owns and trains the Pine Valley offspring who picked up career win number 34.
Wagner captured the second half of the double with favorite Southwind Ferrari who trotted the mile in 1:57 for Scott Woogen and trainer Arlene Cameron.
Ricky Still had a driving double for trainer Brittany Bounds with DBS Rosco and Major Blue Coat, the latter co-owned by husband Michael.
Bill Long won twice, first with Wynnfield Ariel for owner-trainer Pam Polk and then with Olivias Grand Slam for breeder-owner Neil Falter.
There was a retirement announced as I Wanna Go Fast, after earning $350,000 for owners Gloria Kinnamon and Dolly Goad, hung it up at age 11. The son of Three Olives has been trained by Brian Callahan and Jamie Vance.
Also condolences to Clyde and Carolyn Oglesby and longtime owners Denmar Stable of Florida on the loss of the 9-year-old mare Little Miss Woohoo. The daughter of Cam’s Rocket was bred on the local scene by Roger Hans and won 28 career races.
