Walkinshaw N cruises to victory at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY — Fresh off an impressive victory at Yonkers Raceway, Walkinshaw N cruised to a 1:53.2 win in Tuesday’s (March 9) $11,000 Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

Walkinshaw N looked every bit the part of an odds-on favorite in Tuesday’s Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Melissa Simser-Iovino photo.

Walkinshaw N was assigned post five in the five-horse feature, but driver Jimmy Devaux didn’t waste any time moving the 1-9 favorite to the early lead. The nine-year-old son of Mach Three travelled unopposed through a :57 first half while tracked from the pocket by Crockets Cullen N (Larry Stalbaum). Those two rivals kicked away from the competition around the final turn, with Walkinshaw N winning by a widening 2-3/4 lengths in the fastest mile to date of the young racing season at the Spa. Crockets Cullen N was the runner-up; Sgt Papa Daddy (Mark Beckwith) earned the show spot.

Walkinshaw N, who is owned by William Hartt of Carmel, Maine, and trained by Lance Hudson, paid $2.30 to win. He has now won four of his six starts this year.

Live racing at Saratoga continues on Wednesday afternoon (March 10), beginning at 12 noon.
