Watch video from USTA visit to the 10th annual Mid-Ohio Memorial Trotting Sale in Mt. Hope, Ohio

Columbus, OH –  Members of the U.S. Trotting Association’s Communications, Outreach and Member Services Departments visited the 10th Annual Mid-Ohio Memorial Trotting Sale in Mt. Hope, OH on Friday (May 27).

Sales Committee member Robert Hershberger, who was one of the original founders of the sale a decade ago, talked with the USTA’s Wendy Ross about the history of the sale, the Standardbred breed and its use as a Roadster as well as the newly created Standardbred Roadster 100 with a purse of $100,000 that will debut at the 2022 UPHA/American Royal National Championship Horse Show in November in Kansas City.

In the interview, Hershberger talked about the new competition whose competitors were determined by auctions for the nine entries.

“We just launched it this past winter and it has been unbelievable,” explained Hershberger. “They (horses) have to be USTA registered but anybody can buy a spot.”

The last two of the nine spots for the Roadster 100 were auctioned off immediately following the sale for $8,750 and $8,500.

“One thing that is very exciting is that the USTA is behind us,” added Hershberger.  “They’re actually sponsoring the trophies for the Roadster 100.”

The sales topper was Lordy Lordy (Muscle Massive – Grace Victoria) for $1.375,000 followed by Stinglike A B K (Andover Hall – Winning Miss Brenda) for $750,000 and Howe-Stormy (Deweycheatumnhowe – Wygant Dixie Girl) for $450,000.
