Wayne County Fair announces new event promoting youth engagement in harness racing

Honesdale, PA — The Wayne County Fair is happy to announce a new event promoting youth engagement in the sport of harness racing.

The 160th edition of the fair has agreed to sponsor a youth oriented “Mini Trot” program featuring live pony races loosely based on the active program in Australia.

Family fun is always a huge part of the Wayne County Fair; what better way to promote youth interest in our sport than this hands on event. Participants must supply their own equipment and ponies. Properly fitting helmets with ASTM/SEI certification is required, racing colors are encouraged but not required.

Interested young horsemen/women must have written approval as to their abilities by a USTA licensed driver/trainer. All participants must be willing to have parental signature of a hold harmless agreement with the Wayne County Fair.

The inaugural event is open to approved, experienced youths between the ages of 8 and 15. Participants will participate in a quarter-mile exhibition on the historic 160-year-old fairgrounds track.

The Mini Trots will take place immediately following our regularly scheduled harness racing card on Thursday (Aug. 11).
