by Jim Miller, for Hawthorne Racecourse
Stickney, IL — On another cold and snowy evening at Hawthorne Race Course, the second week of the winter meet concluded with a fine performance on the track from driver Kyle Wilfong. The 26-year-old guided home five winners from his eight drives on the Sunday (Jan. 14) card.
After a fourth-place finish in the night’s opener with Lilac Laurey, Wilfong won the second race on the card with Skyway Fireball ($11.40). He came right back in the third, driving Her Royal Hottness ($15.00) to the win, getting up in the shadow of the wire. After finishing second with Fox Valley Hoss in race four and third behind Lotta Richess in race five, Wilfong was back in the winner’s circle in the sixth with Cuinthepurplerain ($3.80). In race seven, Wilfong guided Banker Volo ($9.80) from the back of the pack to win the Open Trot from the outside. He closed his driving night with a win in race eight from Maserati Seelster ($3.60).
The night capped a seven-win week for Wilfong as he has gotten off to a hot start on the winter meet.
