by Josh Potts, for the Brown County Fair
Mount Sterling, IL — Live harness racing action returns to the Brown County Fair on August 3 and 4 in Mount Sterling, Ill. First race post time for both nights of racing is 7 p.m. (CDT).
For those who can’t make it to the track in person — no problem! That is because WVIL (101.3 FM) will broadcast all of the live racing action on both nights.
For those outside of the listening area, you may listen to all of the action from anywhere in the world via WVIL’s website at www.wvilfm.com.
The highlight of the meet will once again be Thursday (August 4) night’s $18,200 Taser Gun Pace — the richest race on the Illinois county fair racing circuit. Named after the veteran campaigner who scorched the Mount Sterling twicearound in 2002 with a mile of 1:53.4, the Taser Gun is always the most anticipated race on the Illinois county fair circuit.
In the 2009 edition of the Taser Gun Pace, Tom Harmer-trainee I Can Only Imagine won with a blistering 1:51.1 performance — the fastest mile ever on an Illinois county fair track. Harmer is back at the Brown County Fair again this year, as his talented charge Omaha Survivor will try to take down the Taser Gun purse.
Last year’s renewal of the Taser Gun was equally entertaining, as Fort Silky gave driver Marcus Miller his second Taser Gun tally over a three-year span. He also won aboard Faith Leigh in 2008.
Fort Silky and Miller team up once again this year to defend their title, but Omaha Survivor and other fan favorites like Big Daddy Woo Woo, Let’s Getit Started, Ben’s JD, and Daretodogreathings will all be trying to stop them.
Also, the Brown County Fair is once again the only county fair in Illinois to offer the public pari-mutuel wagering on harness racing.
With great harness racing and the chance to win money, bring your family and friends out to see the live racing action at the Brown County Fair on August 3 and 4. You won’t want to miss it!
