Elim winners draw well for Adios final

Washington, PA — Tuesday’s draw for post positions for Saturday’s $450,000 final of the Delvin Miller Adios at The Meadows was kind to last week’s elimination winners.

Lonewolf Currier will leave from the rail for John Campbell and was installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite. The other elim winner, Sunfire Blue Chip, will go from post four — the Meadows “winningest” post position this year — with Yannick Gingras piloting at morning line odds of 8-1.

“No. 4 is the winningest post? Let’s keep those numbers up,” joked Jimmy Takter, trainer of Sunfire Blue Chip. “Anything four and inside is good. I’m very happy with it. He was off three weeks before the elimination, and I really expect him to step it up a little bit.”

Not as lucky was Word Power, who raced giant from post nine last week only to fall a nose short of Sunfire Blue Chip. He and driver Jim Morrill, Jr. will need a similar effort Saturday, as they drew post eight.

“It’s a bad post. It’s something he’ll have to overcome,” said his trainer, Larry Remmen. “He’s raced well his last three starts but has had some tough luck. Perhaps there’ll be a lively flow and he’ll land in a good spot.”

The “Pace for the Orchids” goes as race 12 on Saturday’s card with a projected post time of 4:05 p.m. The program is rich with Grand Circuit races, including the Quinton Patterson Adioo Volo for 3-year-old filly pacers, the inaugural Mary Lib Miller-Arden Downs for freshman filly pacers and the Gov. David Lawrence-Arden Downs for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers. The card also features a $50,000 Adios consolation.

The Meadows, in cooperation with the United States Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program, is offering three special Adios Day wagers: a $7,500 guaranteed Pick-4 (races four-seven); a $15,000 guaranteed Late Pick-4 (races nine-12), and a $25,000 guaranteed superfecta on race 12, the Adios final.

In addition, The Meadows and HorseTourneys.com are offering a “Pick & Pray” handicapping contest on Adios Day, with the winner earning a free berth in the 2014 World Harness Handicapping Contest. Free past performances will be available at TrackMaster. To register and for a complete list of contest rules, visit www.horsetourneys.com/rules.
