Kamal Family Fund receiving contributions

by Jack Ginnetti

Marlborough, MA — The New England Harness Writers Association and the United States Harness Writers Association, as well as close friends, are among the early contributors to the Kamal Family Fund.

The fund was established shortly after the passing of Gary J. Kamal on November 10 by his longtime friend, James Winske.

Gary’s wish was to have his daughter Melissa obtain her college degree and fund contributions will go toward those expenses, according to Winske.

Kamal, 52, began a career in harness racing when he finished high school. He was a standout driver-trainer in New England, New York and New Jersey and finished his career with 2,193 victories. He and his wife, Karen, managed the Kamal Racing Stable and settled in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Funeral services were held yesterday (November 16) at St. George’s Orthodox Church in Lawrence, Mass., with burial in the United Lebanese Cemetery in Andover, Mass.

Those wishing to contribute should send donations to: Kamal Family Fund, c/o Jim Winske, P.O. Box 5867, Marlborough, MA 01752.
