Stage set for $162,000 Isle of Capri Final

Pompano Beach, Florida – February 27, 2004 – Pompano Park Harness Track hosts its richest race of the year Saturday, the $162,000 final of the 6th annual Isle of Capri Pacing Series, named after its parent company, the Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc.

Nine top pacers from throughout North America will compete in the 9th race feature that is the richest race to date in 2004 in harness racing. In addition to the Isle of Capri final, also on the program is the $80,000 final of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series and the $50,000 Red Bow Tie Invitational Pace for Florida-breds.

Luckyisasluckydoes is the 8/5 favorite in the Isle Pace for driver Bruce Ranger and starts from post three. The Canadian newcomer won both of his preliminary rounds in the series, including a 1:51 victory that was two-fifths of a second from the track record. Other contenders include Australian import Hipeka A, last year’s winner, Corporate Rrraider and Image of Dawn.

The Mack Lobell final is race 4 featuring another down under horse, Trappers Salute A (post 2) who takes on Ultimate Sundance (post 1) who won both of his preliminary divisions. Another preliminary round winner is Lori Louise, the only mare in the race against male rivals. The Red Bow Tie Invitational is set as the 2nd race and is headed by Swingin Glory (post 2), who is driven by 33-year-old Richard Macomber, Jr., the only professional harness driver in the sport that is hearing impaired.

Also on the program, after the 7th race, will be a special presentation by track management to the only two women professional drivers in the sport, Beatrice Farber and Jacqueline Ingrassia, that have won more than 1,000 races in their career.

For racing fans, the first 4,000 patrons at the track by 6:00 pm will get a free Isle of Capri T-shirt. There will be free prize drawings during the night to win vacation trips to the Isle of Capri Casinos, live music and entertainment and a Family Fun Night with children’s events including free miniature horse rides, facing painting and a free prize wheel. Caribbean station 1580 AM, Mystic Radio, will have their party van at the track from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Isle Notes: Patrick Lachance, the son of Hall of Famer Michel Lachance, makes his driving debut at Pompano Park Saturday in the Isle of Capri, driving Image of Dawn from post four and they are the 4-1 third choice in the race. With Tom Harmer’s He Wants It All drawing into the Isle final in post 7, driver Tony Morgan will be back at Pompano again and he has drives in 9 of the 12 races. Kevin Wallis gets the call to drive Little I Do N (post 8) over David Ingraham and Wally Hennessey will drive Quality of Life (post 9) for the first time. Total purses for the 12-race program Saturday are $355,400.

In the 11th race $11,500 Open Handicap Trot Friday, Sweet Count ($16.40) and driver Tom Sells went from last at the top of the stretch to first at the wire, winning by one and one-half lengths in 1:56.3. There were four lead changes by the three-quarter pole. It was the first win in three starts this year for Sweet Count, who is owned and trained by William Gallagher of Hightstown, New Jersey.
