Windsong Leo takes third straight in Meadows feature; Palone wins six

Washington, PA — Windsong Leo endured a demanding 26.3 opening quarter in the slop and still had plenty in the tank to notch his third straight victory in Friday’s (Jan. 10) $20,000 Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Windsong Leo gave Dave Palone one of six victories on the Friday program at The Meadows. Chris Gooden Photo.

After Dave Palone gave Windsong Leo a 29.1 second-panel breather, the 8-year-old Jereme’s Jet-Windsong Goldie gelding threw down a 27.3 third quarter that put the field away. He sprinted off late to score in 1:51, 1-1/2 lengths ahead of Bettor Than Spring, with Do Work Son third.

Ron Burke trains Windsong Leo, a 15-time winner in 2019 who now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $596,460, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Phillip Collura.

Dave Palone collected six wins, including three for Burke, on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Monday, first post 1:05 p.m.
