Don Marean 2017 Vice-Chairman Candidate

Don Marean – Biography

Chairman of USTA District 9 and a current director of the Maine Harness Horsemens Association.

Been involved in harness racing over 30 years as an owner and breeder.

Past President of the Maine Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association.

Currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Agriculture of the University of Maine System.

Serve as a director of the Maine Farm Bureau Horse Council and was appointed by President Langley to serve as a Trustee of the American Horse Council in Washington, D.C.

Presently serving as a Trustee of the New England Expo representing Maine. The Expo also known as the Big E is an effort of all six New England States to promote youth in agriculture and it just celebrated its 100th anniversary.

A non-profit Grow Smart Maine in January 2017 elected me to their board of directors to continue their efforts to protect history and quality of place.

Past Selectman (councilor) of Town of Hollis for a three-year term in municipal government.

Currently a legislator in the Maine House of Representatives serving my fifth term. Served four terms on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee and serving my fifth term on Criminal Justice Public Safety. Also served on the Taxation Committee and Joint House and Senate Rules Committee.

My 12 years at the State House have allowed me to oversee and protect our sport by introducing and passing several pieces of legislation that benefitted the industry. A voting voice in the chambers is critical and gives our industry a leg up on the many decisions facing legislators and I am confident that being in the chambers has helped.

The Industry has honored me with several awards and recognitions all of which I am very proud. These experiences are a testament to my qualifications to serve as your vice-chairman of the Board and I ask for your support in February.

You can find more details about my family on the USTA Directors page http://www.ustrotting.com/viewdirs.cfm?dir=49&dis=9&show=single.
