Lexington Selected Yearling Sale maintains substantial increase over the 2013

by David Carr, the United States Trotting Association

Lexington, KY — The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale maintained its substantial increase over the 2013 numbers for average sale price on Thursday evening October 2, at the conclusion of the third of five scheduled sessions. The 419 yearlings sold thus far have an average price of $58,399, compared to the 420 youngsters bringing an average of $54,148 in 2013. That represents an increase of 7.9 percent.

During the third session on Thursday, 165 yearlings passed through the sales ring, selling for an average price of $33,061. This was a decline from the $34,051 average for 157 yearlings a year ago by about three percent.

In a horse sale rarity, the first horse to walk into the ring walked out at what would be the highest price for the night. Making it even more remarkable, Dancin In the Nude is a pacing filly, usually the trailer among the four sex and gait categories. Mark Steacy paid $110,000 for this filly by Sportswriter, whose first crop of two-year-olds has been a sensation in Ontario this year. Her dam Dancewiththebest has already produced world champion and million dollar winner Dancin Yankee. Walnut Hall Limited served as agent for breeder Elizabeth Wagner.

First crop sire Roll With Joe had the credit for the second-highest yearling for the night, at $100,000. Catch Twenty Two, from Make Me Blush, was a Myron Bell acquisition. The colt was consigned by Brittany Farms as agent for breeder John Wagner.

A pair of yearlings sold for $90,000 apiece on Thursday. Don Swick snapped up the Yankee Cruiser colt Fool’s Cuise, whose dam Fool For You has a couple of 1:54 credits among her three foals. The yearling colt was bred by Pinske Stables and Michael Parisi, while consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc.

The top trotter among the four leaders for the session was Tartufo Lindy, a Conway Hall colt out of Peace A Pie, the producer of divisional champion and top broodmare Pizza Dolce, as well as another pair of winners in excess of $200,000. Andy and Julie Miller purchased and will train the colt that was bred by K R Breeding LLC and consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc. as agent.

The Lexington Select Yearling Sale continues each evening at 7:00 through Saturday at the Fasig-Tipton Sale Arena.
