by “Catskill” Steve Terjanian

Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $20,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on June 14 part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 10-13, Saturday, June 14, 2014

$1 play: 136/26/39/34 = $24

Analysis:

Race 10: (1) Washington Hanover has had tough posts in recent. Has been coming home with sub 28-second final quarters in all recent starts and now gets the rail in second try at greatly reduced level. Looks best if anywhere near the top turning for home. (3) Mortal Combat had been racing well before being knocked off stride while trying to close off impossible fourthover trip last time. Moves inside and remains sharp. (6) One Last Chance went an improved mile when dropped back to best level in latest. Can leave for position and can be dangerous at a price.

Race 11: (6) Bring It On Kaajay had tough fourth-over trip, flew home with :26.3 final quarter to just miss against tougher. Drops and can roll by these late at nothing close to 8-1 morning line price. (2) Tink And Tiger may have disliked the slop in last. Gets key driver switch to Hall Of Famer and has handled this level in the past.

Race 12: (3) Just By Design was used early in Maywood stakes event last time and tired. Returns to the big track and gets Dave back in the bike and will likely be leaving from this spot. (9) Ryleigh’s Lilly broke in same race as top one last time. Mare has a strong late pop when on her game and finished with sharp :54.3 final half here at this level two back. Price factor if Casey can get her into the flow.

Race 13: (3) Major Male has had tough trips in both tries at this reduced level. Switches to Todd and finds a nice spot. (4) Uncle Bud has yet to find form that produced a solid year in 2013 but takes a key drop in finale which may be all that’s needed to perk him up.
