Colby D upsets in OBC 3-year-old Colt Trot

Delaware, OH — Dave Palone guided Colby D to a 1-1/4 length upset victory over Master’s Cook (David Miller) in the first division of the $47,634 Ohio Breeders Championship for sophomore colt trotters on Wednesday (Sept. 23) at the Delaware, Ohio Fair.

Colby D, who paid $35.00 to win, rallied from fifth at the three-quarter pole to collar the field in 1:59.4. The son of Emile Angus is conditioned by Jim Dailey for Keith Ross.

The second division was won by V Squared and Scott Zeron. The son of Pegasus Spur used the rail and went gate-to-wire in 1:58.4. V Squared’s victory was his fifth straight and the tenth of his season. He is owned by Scott Robinson.

Trick Man and Doc’s Yankee take 2CP OBC

Trick Man and Ray Paver overcame an outside post and scored a 1:57.3 victory over EJ’s Pocket Rocket (Tyler Smith) in the first division of the OBC 2-year-old colt pace.

Trick Man left from post eight and improved to third at the quarter-mile pole. Paver took command of the field before the half-mile station and Trick Man set the remaining fractions, cruising to a one length victory.

The reigning Ohio Sire Stakes champion is owned by Knox Services, Inc.

In the second $31,617 division, Doc’s Yankee and Kyle Ater defeated Show Me Glory (Tim Tetrick) by a half-length. The final time of 1:55.3 was just a fifth of a second off the national season’s record. The Yankee Cruiser gelding is owned by the Bay Racing Stable and is conditioned by Ron Potter.

Youth movement in the drivers’ standings

Youth is being served so far in the drivers’ standings of the Delaware County Fair. Through the first four days of action, Dan Noble, the 26-year-old son of Ohio Hall of Fame driver Sam Noble III, and Aaron Merriman (31-years-old) are tied atop the standings with seven victories. Ryan Stahl (31) and Matt Kakaley (21) are tied for third with six victories each.

Other notable young victors include Tyler Smith (16) and Scott Zeron (20).
