Amateurs invade Delaware

Delaware, OH — Three divisions of the Billings Amateur Trot series were contested on the opening day of the Grand Circuit meet (Sunday, Sept. 20) at the Delaware County Fair.

Bud Hatfield moved to the top of the list and became the leading amateur driver at Delaware with his victory in the first division of the Billings Series. Hatfield guided his 7-year-old Credit Winner gelding to a comfortable victory over Prime Number (Larry Farley) in 2:02.4. The victory was Hatfield’s fifth at the Delaware County Fair.

Hatfield’s reign at the top was short lived as Brent Davis joined Hatfield atop the leading drivers list after the next Billings division. The Zanesville, Ohio native guided Done Dreamen to an open length victory over Quikmaster (Kathy Hawk) in 2:00. Interestingly, Davis used the Hatfield Stables-owned gelding to tie for the all-time career lead.

The final division went to Thomas Williams and American Flyer in 1:57.4. The New And Notable gelding is conditioned by Jim Pollock, Jr. for Linemaster Services of Westerville, Ohio.
