Tight finishes in NYSS Bronxville Trot divisions

Yonkers, NY — Yonkers Raceway’s Monday night (Sept. 14) fare featured the $210,566 New York Sire Stakes Bronxville Trot for 3-year-old colts and geldings.

Three divisions — worth $69,322, $70,622 and $70,622, respectively — went at it, with all producing close finishes.

The opener, an off-the-card event, saw pocket-sitting Kash N Credit (Jason Bartlett) get to pace-setting South Jersey Flash (Steve Reisenweaver) by a length in 2:00.1. RC Authority (Brian Sears) was a first-up third. The winner, a son of Credit Winner, was trained by (co-owner) Clint Galbraith for his wife, Barbara, along with Arnold Rothschild.

America held off Calchips Brute by a nose in their NYSS split.

The first wagering sire stakes event found second-choice America (Jeff Gregory) yield to an intermission brush from 2-5 fave Calchips Brute (Sears), then nail that one on the money. America won by a nose in a life-best 1:58.2, with Credit Blues (Cat Manzi) third.

America, a Conway Hall colt trained by Richard Norman for co-owners David McDuffee and David Scharf, paid $5.20 for his fifth win in 18 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $9.90, with the triple returning $53.50.

The evening’s final statebred grouping saw 3-10 favorite Russell Hill (Jim Morrill, Jr.) set cheap enough fractions, but that did not deter a first-over And Away We Go (Andy Miller). In a match race for the final half-mile, And Away We Go stuck his neck out — literally — at the wire in 1:58.2 (last half in a snappy :57 seconds). It was than more than five lengths back to Hitontheflipside (Gregory).

And Away We Go, a son of Conway Hall trained by Julie Miller for her husband and George Brennan, paid $9.40 (second choice) for his third victory in nine ’09 tries. The exacta paid $15.20, with the triple returning $125.50.

New York Sire Stakes action continues here Thursday night with the $181,368 Lew Barasch Trot (2-year-old colts/geldings) and the $219,654 Jim Crawford Pace (3-year-old colts/geldings). Friday night offers the $178,522 Tuckahoe Pace (2-year-old colts/geldings).
