Wen-Mar’s Memo wins Meadows Trot

by Evan Pattak, for The Meadows

Meadow Lands, PA — Wen-Mar’s Memo controlled the race with a dawdling first half, then sprinted home in :56.3 to capture the $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot on Wednesday at The Meadows.

Wen-Mar’s Memo entered the race with the smallest career bankroll of the seven competitors, but the 5-year-old daughter of Carry The Message-Lightly Sakra was allowed to make the half in 1:00.1. It was no contest from there, as Eric Ledford cut the mare loose in the back half. She thwarted the first-over challenge of Whotookwhat and scored in 1:56.4, three-quarters of a length better than the pocket-sitting Lavec Dream. Toms OK Lady was a ground-saving third.

Donnie Russell trains Wen-Mar’s Memo and owns the mare with Edward Needle.

Tony Hall drove four winners on the 13-race card while Ed Hensley enjoyed a driving triple.
