Stallion Series adds opportunities for Pennsylvania freshmen

by Jerry Connors, the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission

Harrisburg PA — The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission is announcing a new series for 2-year-olds, the “Stallion Series,” thereby producing an extra racing option for owners of PA-sired freshmen.

There will be four preliminary legs and a $40,000 Championship for each of the four divisions of 2-year-olds. The Stallion Series races will be held the racing day before a Sire Stakes race at a given track.

There are no additional sustaining fees to this series — as long as one has made March 15 and May 15 Sire Stakes payments, the horse is eligible to the Stallion Series. There is a $200 starting fee for each Stallion Series leg, added to the preliminary purse.

Further questions about the Stallion Series or any aspect of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes can be answered by calling (717) 787-5539, or e-mailing gconnors@state.pa.us.
