Freehold Raceway opens for Summer/Fall meeting

Freehold, NJ — Freehold Raceway, America’s oldest pari-mutuel harness track, will open its summer/fall meeting with a 10-race card of live harness racing action on Thursday afternoon, August 7.

The meeting will be highlighted by the $300,000 (est.) Cane Pace and the $271,000 (est.) James B. Dancer Memorial.

Some of the other major stakes events on the Freehold summer/fall schedule include the $160,000 (est.) Shady Daisy, the $130,000 (est.) Battle of Freehold and the $110,000 Molly Pitcher.

Races for New Jersey sired horses are well represented on the schedule. In addition to such renowned events as the Lou Babic final ($145,000 est.), The Harold Dancer final ($70,000 est.), the Helen Smith final ($85,000 est.), the Lou Babic filly final ($80,000 est.) and the Charles I. Smith final ($100,000 est.), Freehold will also host the New Jersey Sire Stakes fall championship series, which culminate in eight $85,000 guaranteed divisional finals for 2- and 3-year-old trotting fillies and colts, and 2- and 3-year-old pacing fillies and colts. Also, the Green Acres series features eight $35,000 divisional finals and there will be four open divisions of the New Jersey Futurity held at Freehold during the fall.

After an abbreviated three-day, Thursday through Saturday schedule for the opening week, Freehold will conduct live racing Tuesday through Saturday.

First post for the meeting will be 12:30 p.m. and admission to daytime racing is always free of charge.
