Raising Rachel sets her sights on In Free Final

Campbellville, ON — Unbeaten in three starts, Raising Rachel is going postward as the 7-5 favorite in Sunday night’s (August 3) C$47,200 In Free Trotting Series final at Mohawk for 2-year-old fillies.

Little wonder, considering her utterly dominating 5-1/2 length victory in last week’s In Free second leg, over Per Henriksen pupil Streetsmart. Raising Rachel also lowered her lifetime speed mark by almost two full seconds in that effort, and has been demonstrating a level of maturity her peers are still struggling to find.

The only potential snag in the contest is Rachel’s outside post position. Having drawn post eight in a nine-horse field, driver Jack Moiseyev may have to leave hard from the gate to maneuver into a favorable spot. It will certainly be an education for the Yankee Glide filly, who has been prepped by John Kopas for owners Mel Hartman, George Hempt, the KR Stable, and Doug Millard.

If there’s a spoiler in the field, it might be another Yankee Glide filly named Hindright. Trained by Chris Beaver, Hindright has only a single start under her belt, but it was an impressive first effort, resulting in a two length victory in her split of the In Free second leg over Naughty Broadway and Faux Fur Hanover. Hindright will have the benefit of post position three, with Trevor Ritchie in the bike to guide her.

The final of the In Free Series is race four on Sunday night at Mohawk. Post time is 8:30 p.m. (EDT).
