Juvenile pacing fillies to compete for $200,000 in NYSS

Monticello, NY — For the second time in as many weeks Monticello Raceway is the first of six stops for New York Sire Stakes 2- year-olds along the way to the $150,000 Finale at Yonkers Raceway in mid-September. And being the first track to host the freshman filly pacers on July 16 means that most have yet to show their capabilities and the majority of the fillies entered to start will be making their pari-mutuel debuts.

This coming Wednesday afternoon (July 16) at the Mighty M, over $205,000 will be offered in seven NYSS divisions and they will go as races one, two, four, five, six, eight and nine on the 13-race card.

However, one filly, Market Dynamics, already has begun to make a name for herself after she copped a $30,644 division of the Debutante Stakes at the Meadowlands in a 1:55.2 clocking on June 25 and then came right back on July 7 to win a $20,000 division of the Reynolds Stake at Pocono Downs in a time of 1:55.3.

The undefeated daughter of Pro Bono Best-Go Abby Go is trained by Bill Popfinger, who co-owns the brown filly with Alan Wolnek. David Miller will drive the filly from post position four in the last division, race nine on the 13-race card.

Another impressive filly who has already been victorious is Stolly Up Bluechip. Owned by Frank Dettore, the daughter of Art Major-Stasia’s Girl is also undefeated, having scored her maiden victory in 1:57 at Pocono Downs on June 24 and then winning a NYSS County Fair event at Goshen in 1:59 on July 3. Mark Ford trains and Stephane Bouchard will drive Stolly Up Bluechip from the two hole in the second race.

Joe Scala and Cynthia Massari’s On The Glass scored her maiden victory here at Monticello on July 9 in a time of 2:01.3 after a second place finish in a division of the Debutante Stakes at the Big M on July 25 where she was individually timed in 1:56.3. She‘ll start from post five in race eight with Stephane Bouchard at the controls.

Two others have posted impressive wins already this year. Brian Doolittle’s Clearly The Best, a daughter of Pro Bono Best–E Dee’s Sapphire, owns a 1:59.1 half-mile track record taken at Saratoga Harness on June 20 and KMS Stable’s Counter Top, a Pro Bono Best-Formica filly, was victorious in 2:01 at Buffalo Raceway on June 27. The former will start from post position four in race four with Billy Parker, Jr. at the lines while the latter will have John Cummings, Jr. in the pilot’s seat when she starts from the three hole in race five.

Of all the other fillies in to go on Wednesday only Cranberry has already won a race, a 2:04.3 effort at Historic Track in a NYSS County Fair event on July 2. The daughter of Pro Bono Best-Do You Know Me will have Stephane Bouchard in the sulky when she starts from post position seven in the first race.

Post time for the Wednesday afternoon card will be at 1:10 p.m.
