‘Raider’ wires distaff field at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Gen-U-Wine Raider ($3.80, $2.20, $2.40) had no trouble winning the $6,500 top level pace for fillies and mares at Rosecroft Raceway on Saturday, November 17, winning unchallenged in 1:56.

Driven by Frank Milby, the 6-year-old daughter of Keystone Raider gained the lead off of the gate from post position four, passing the quarter pole in a modest :29. Milby rated the mare well, keeping a length lead through middle fractions of :59.1 and 1:27.2 to win by three-quarters of a length. Thomas Swann trains Gen-U-Wine Raider for owners Julie and Lois Swann.

Overlooked at 12-1 odds, Grace Of Hearts ($5.80, $6.40) sat in the pocket for second, finishing in 1:56.1. Owned, trained and driven by Kelly Staten, the 3-year-old Allie’s Western filly was competitive, tracking the leader step for step through the mile.

Third in the $266.80 triple were Adelias Girl ($3.60) and driver Timmy Offutt. At 8-1 odds by post time, the 5-year-old Real Artist mare made up ground in the stretch with a :28.3 closing quarter. Joe Offutt trains Adelias Girl for owners Frank and James Russell.

Milby wins half of the card on Saturday

Frank Milby continued his winning ways on Saturday, taking seven of 14 carded races. Thevoodoothatyoudo ($4.20) won the opener as the even money choice in 1:56.1. The 3-year-old Nuclear High filly paced first-over after the half to win by a half-length for owner-trainer Richard Hans.

In the fourth race, First Tier ($8.00), a sophomore Dream Vacation filly, topped her competitors by over 11 lengths in 1:58. The trotter is trained by Robert Coole for the Winbak Farm.

Milby closed out his night by winning five in a row beginning with Gen-U-Wine Raider ($3.80) in the eighth race.

In the ninth, Sport Utility ($25.60) trotted to victory in 2:00.2. The 8-year-old Donerail mare, co-owned by Maureen McCartney, Peter McCartney and trainer Jerry Nock, went off at 11-1 odds by post time.

The tenth race brought Gaje ($6.20) to the winner’s circle in 1:58. The 4-year-old pacing Misfit gelding won by a half-length after being parked out for the first portion of the mile. Jim Fortna trains for owners Allen Stoltzfus and Megan Fortna.

Mi’s Arlene ($6.20) trotted to a win in 2:00.2 in the 11th race, leaving the gate from post position eight to win by a neck. Jasper Venters owns and trains the 9-year-old Loge mare.

The 12th race featured You Buy I’ll Fly ($3.60), a 6-year-old pacing mare by Arturo. Trained by Linda Schadel for owner Bruce Schadel, the mare won by over five lengths in 1:56.
