Self Evident matches track record at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Self Evident won a conditioned trot on Monday afternoon (August 27) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and matched a track record in the process. He trotted the mile in 1:54.4, matching the record for 3-year-old geldings on the trot set in 2005 by the great Vivid Photo.

Self Evident, with Jim Taggart, Jr. in the bike, gunned to the engine from post four and led every step of the way, setting sharp fractional times of :28 at the quarter, :56.4 at the half, and 1:25.1 for the three-quarters. He trotted the final panel in :29.3 for the victory, holding off the fast-charging Bruschette, who settled for second. Edgestone Hanover finished third.

It was the sixth win of the year for Self Evident, who is trained by Don Swick for owners AGS Stables Inc. and BJR Stables Inc. of Florida, and Steve Held of New York.
