Slim Down wins again at The Rock

Salem, NH — If there are horses for courses and courses for horses, Slim Down and Rockingham Park may be the perfect pair.

The 5-year-old gelded son of Yankee Glide, who is driven, trained, and owned in part by James Hardy, extended his unbeaten streak at the track on Sunday (July 22) by winning the $11,000 featured trot for his second consecutive and third overall win here this season.

Last season, Slim Down established the track record for 4-year-old gelding trotters when he traveled the mile in 1:55.2 on July 16. On Sunday, one year and one week later, he proved that he’s getting faster as he matures. Slim Down covered the mile over the same racing strip in 1:54.3 after leading the entire way. His final time was a new lifetime best for him and just three ticks of a second off the track record for older trotting geldings.

Sent off as the 1-2 favorite in the field of seven, Slim Down won going away by four lengths and returned $3.00, $2.40, and $2.20.

Live racing resumes on Wednesday (July 25) with post time of 1:05 p.m., and the popular Saratoga Thoroughbred meeting will kick off and be available via full card simulcasting. Also on Wednesday, Texas Hold ‘Em poker returns and the games run every Wednesday through Sunday. Beginning in August, the track will offer poker on Tuesday through Sunday.
