Cyber Circuit Handicapping: The North America Cup Final

by Jerry Connors

Harrisburg, PA — The major 3-year-old pacing colt stars should all be twinkling Saturday night at Mohawk, with a big slice of C$1,500,000 on the line in the Pepsi North America Cup Final. (And you know I love harness racing, when I, a confirmed Coke drinker, actually typed “Pepsi” there, because I do believe in supporting the sponsors who support harness racing).

That being said, I think the most cool relief for bettors will come from Sutter Hanover. Slow-starting at two, the Dragon Again colt was one of the best of his class at the end of last year, and this year he’s been perfect in three starts. He looks like he has a consistent late kick, and if David Miller can work out the right journey, we think it’ll be Sutter getting the gold in the winner’s circle.

Yankee Skyscaper (I still want to type in that extra “r”) will probably be the favorite, and that looping move in the seventh-eighth of last week’s race was impressive. Still, he missed after a perfect journey in the New Jersey Classic Final, and from this post he may be on the move early to avoid shuffle city and come under fierce attack on the point.

Kenneth J hung in very staunchly after the big Skyscaper move, giving way only grudgingly, and that after a week away. The post is no help.

Tell All had a big mile to win last time, and his connections are no strangers to bigtime winner’s circles, but the small win margin of May 12 bothers me a bit, although this colt does have a license to keep on improving.

A tremendous card all-around at Mohawk, with the NA Cup the cherry on the top — and Sutter Hanover may have the biggest piece of the pie (to mix dessert metaphors). Enjoy!

Editor’s Note: The North America Cup Final will be the sixth stop on the USTA’s Cyber Circuit. Be sure to view the race replay moments after the “official” sign is posted. Follow the entire Cyber Circuit by following this link.
