Former broodmare spreads holiday cheer

Laura, OH — Nicki Nicki flunked out of racing after her first start. She then produced three foals, none of which could win a race. However, the daughter of Jurgy Hanover has blossomed into a wonderful riding horse after being sent to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.

Donated by Shirley McCallister of Lapeer, Michigan, Nicki Nicki was adopted by Marisa Gordon of McComb, Ohio last November.

On Christmas Day, Marisa trailered her adopted Standardbred to a friend’s home and surprised the neighborhood kids with holiday rides.

“Nicki was an angel,” said Marisa. “She seemed to love the kids and brought them so much joy. Child after child got to ride, around yards and up and down Main Street. Nicki was dressed up with garland and sparkles in her mane, tail, and forelock. The kids loved it and so did she. What a wonderful mare!”
