High Calibre N wins Delaware Special

by Marv Bachrad, publicity director, Dover Downs

DOVER, DE – High Calibre N won the $30,000 Delaware Special at Dover Downs with Steve Warrington in the bike in a 1:53.3 win on the New Year’s Day card over a sloppy track. Tony Morgan was honored as the 2006 leading dash winning driver, winning 1,004 races.

Post position one has been good for High Calibre N, the seven-year-old altered son of Fake Left. Warrington took the lead at the start and never looked back fending off a challenge from Art Director and Tim Tetrick at the three-quarters. Gold Rocket A appeared his strongest opponent at the top of the lane but the Tony Morgan-driven pacer made a sudden break pulling out of second. Wardog Hall and Ross Wolfenden rushed down the stretch to finish second with Black Cat Bone third. Since the start of the current meet, the Greg Simendinger-owned High Calibre N has two wins, two seconds, two thirds and two fourths in eight De. Special races.

Tim Tetrick made the winner’s circle after driving Gary and Barbara Iles’ homebred, Lather Machine, to an impressive 1:52.1 win to take the $25,000 Open pace. The four-year-old altered son of Badlands Hanover was ushered into the lead on the clubhouse turn and rolled on from there to an easy victory beating Midnight Walk (Ross Wolfenden) and Ross The Boss N (Roger Plante).
