Star Role speeds to 1:52.3 triumph at Pompano

Pompano Beach, FL — Star Role ($3.80) proved to be the fastest winner of the night at Pompano Park on Saturday (Nov. 25) as driver Wally Hennessey was able to go gate-to-wire in the ninth race $6,800 pace and hold on by a neck in 1:52.3.

Star Role (#6) just holds off Honest Lawyer (#1) to win the ninth race pace at Pompano Park in 1:52.3.

It was the pocket-sitting Honest Lawyer and driver Daryl Bier that stalked the race leader from the start and nearly caught them at the wire after fractions of :27.2, :57, and 1:25. Flight Of Glory (Tom Sells) was third.

It was the eighth win this year for Star Role, a 7-year-old gelding by Magical Mike who is trained by Tom Harmer and owned by Michael Polansky of Loudonville, N.Y. Star Role was the class of the field with career earnings of $533,404.

Talbotwesternflame ($12.80) regained his winning form in the second race $8,250 pace for driver Walter Ross, Jr., getting perfect second-over cover and tipping three-wide on the final turn to hold off a late charge by Bagel Man (Richard Macomber, Jr.) in winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.4. Broadway Jate (Bruce Ranger), who was going for his third straight win, was third.

It was the seventh win this year for Talbotwesternflame, a 4-year-old stallion by Western Hero, trained by Walter Ross and owned by Patricia Ross of Margate.

The 10th race $8,250 co-feature pace saw Doctor Viagra ($2.20) and driver Brett Miller lead from start to finish and win by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.1 over Hesadoozy (Daryl Bier) and Murcielago (Stephen Lareau).

It was the fifth win this year for Doctor Viagra, a 4-year-old gelding by Doctor Of Style who is trained by Bud Foster for the Ellacott Shaker Manufactures of Beachwood, Ohio.
