CHESTER, PA – L Dees Val and Misbet recorded strong victories in first leg action of the Meadow Blue Chip late closer series Monday at Harrah’s Chester Casino & Racetrack. Each division offered a purse of $20,000,

The prohibitive 1-2 choice in the first division, L Dees Val settled in third after the start, and then moved aggressively through a third quarter of :27 for driver George Brennan to grab the lead approaching the homestretch. From there, L Dees Val widened her advantage, scoring by one length over Heather’s Gambit and Smashingpringipisa. L Dees Val stopped the timer in 1:53.1.

“I felt confident coming into the race. She’s been facing a little bit better class of horse,” said Brennan. “She got away in the third spot and when I asked her, she cleared the field. We’ll be back for the second leg next week.”

Monday’s score pushed L Dee Val’s career bankroll to $642,516. Her resume includes a victory in the 2003 New Jersey Sires Stakes final for juvenile pacing fillies. She is owned by Dumain, Kutil, and Baldachino, and trained by Mark Capone.

About an hour later, Misbet took her division in a laugher, winning off by a confident six lengths in front of driver Jack Baggitt, Jr. Sent off at 8-5 odds, Misbet notched her 7th victory in 37 starts for owners Lafayette Street Stable and Matthew R. Bailey, and trainer Robert Greenwood. Talia’s Character was second and Go Flyin N was third.

Misbet covered the mile in 1:53.3.

“She’s the type of horse that needs her type of trip,” Baggitt reported afterward. “The fractions (:27.3, :55.3, 1:24.4) were perfect for her and when we pulled past the half, she just took off.”

The series’ second leg will be held next Monday. The $40,000 Meadow Blue Chip final is scheduled for Monday, December 4.
