Possess the Magic wins $175,000 NJSS Final

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – July 20, 2006 – Possess the Magic [$2.80, $2.40, $2.10] cruised to a seven and a quarter length victory in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championship for two-year-old trotting fillies on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Possess the Magic, driven by Mike Lachance and trained by Ron Gurfein, took the lead in the backstretch and trotted home a 1:56.1 victory, her fourth in four starts this year. Enjoy N My Lady [$4.60, $2.80] finished second, while Purple Haze [$2.60] finished a distanced third.

Owned by Brittany Farms of Versailles, Kentucky, the filly increased her earnings to $130,875. The daughter of Self Possessed-Chorine Hanover also won the Acorn Stakes on June 28 at the Meadowlands.

Thursday night’s card also featured three $50,600 Niatross divisions for two-year-old colt and gelding pacers. Mattdultery, driven by Ron Pierce and trained by George Teague Jr., won the third race division in a lifetime best 1:53.1.

Pierce and Teague Jr. were back in the winner’s circle in the fifth race division with Mr Apples, who set a stakes record of 1:51.4.

Pierce and Teague Jr. nearly swept the three divisions, but heavy favorite Whats Up Now was disqualified for interference and placed sixth in the sixth race division. Liberated Artist inherited the win in 1:53.3 for driver David Miller and trainer Travis Alexander.
