Fox Valley Appeal drew off to a two and a quarter length victory in the $88,000 Junior Trendsetter.

He won the $88,000 Junior Trendsetter, the second race, with Fox Valley Appeal. He returned to the winner’s circle in the third race, the $65,000 Exit 16W, with Deliver The Goods, and completed the sweep with Jenna’s Choice in the $79,700 Aquarius, the sixth race.

Sears had gone home early on Friday night with the flu, but he bounced back with four wins in the first six races on Saturday.

Fox Valley Appeal [$3.40, $2.60, $2.10] punched through in the stretch and drew off to a two and a quarter length victory over Menno Boy [$5.40, $3.40] in 1:52.3. Fox Valley Bigshot [$3.00] was four lengths back in third.

It was the fourth straight victory for Fox Valley Appeal, including a sweep of his three Junior Trendsetter starts. He was privately purchased on January 28 by Robert Cohen and Jerrold Spitzberg, who race as Ribbonship of Somerset, New Jersey, and has repaid the partnership with $64,000 in earnings.

“I was hoping to get the flow down the backside;” said Sears. “He was a handful for a while. Once it got going, he just responded and raced well. He likes to go by horses and dig in.”

The three-year-old gelded son of Sportsmaster improved his record to four wins in five starts this year and nine wins, three seconds and one third in 14 career starts. He doubled his career bankroll to $88,537.

“He’s done what he’s had to do this whole series,” said trainer Jeff Smith. “As Brian [Sears] said, he just likes to win. He has the Matt’s Scooter next [starting March 10]. He’ll have a week off before that.”

Deliver The Goods posted a one-length victory over Ithinki’msomebody in the Exit 16W.

Deliver The Goods [$3.60, $3.60, $2.10] posted a one-length victory over Ithinki’msomebody [$11.60, $2.10] in the Exit 16W, extending his winning streak to three. Mr Delite [$2.10] was third by a length and a half. The mile was timed in 1:52. flat.

“We worked out a decent trip,” said Sears. “The starting post [three] really helped out and made the trip easier. He’s just been really good.”

Deliver The Goods, owned by Michael Nissirios’ Niss Allen Inc. of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, was unraced at two. At three, he finished first or second in 14 of 21 starts, wrapping up the 2005 campaign with a victory in the Oil Burner Final at the Meadowlands.

This year the son of Richess Hanover has four wins and one second in six starts, including a sweep of the three-week Exit 16W.

“Sears drove the horse beautifully,” said Al Meyer, assistant to trainer Ken Rucker. “Brian said he didn’t like the wind, and he was gapping a bit. But he kicked in at the end. Sears did the job.”

Sears continued to do the job with Jenna’s Choice [$3.20, $2.40, $2.40], who took the lead before the half and held on for a neck victory over Roddy’s Bags Again [$6.00, $4.80], who was short on space trying to come up the pylons. Stallone [$5.20] rallied for third, a length back.

The mile was timed in 1:51.2

“I had him relaxed early, but he got used pretty hard into the wind and the front isn’t the placed to be tonight,” Sears noted. “I was able to rate him the third quarter, and he was able to hang on. He’s done everything he’s been asked to do so far.”

At three, Jenna’s Choice swept through three Winter Series at the Meadowlands – the Junior Trendsetter, Matt’s Scooter and Suslow – and had won the Berry’s Creek prep in April when he was sidelined with a fracture in his right hind pastern bone.

Jenna’s Choice held on for a neck victory over Roddy’s Bags Again to win the $79,700 Aquarius.

The four-year-old son of Jenna’s Beach Boy returned to the races on February 4, 2006, finishing second, and then strung together a three-race sweep of the Aquarius.

“I think we expected him to come along slower,” said Cliff Pattick of Montvale, New Jersey, who owns Jenna’s Choice in partnership with Daniel Borgo of Randolph, New Jersey, and trainer Mark Silva of Little Ferry, New Jersey. “This has been amazing to us. We’re just ecstatic. We’ll go in the Four Leaf Clover two weeks from tonight. It’s going to be a nice test to see what we have.”

Lifetime, Jenna’s Choice has 11 wins, five seconds and two thirds from 28 starts for earnings of $259,584.

“I don’t usually get nervous when racing him because he always tries so hard,” said Tammy Silva, who trains in partnership with her husband, Mark. “But when we were leaving the detention barn, there was no wind, then the wind starting picking up. He doesn’t really like the wind. He’s a smart horse. When he’s racing, he gets in a zone and calms himself down. The wind during a race doesn’t bother him. We were just worried about warm ups because we like to keep him calm. He didn’t seem to mind tonight.

“I love racing him,” Tammy Silva added. “He always races his best. Sometimes the trip doesn’t work out, but he always tries hard. Since his break, he’s grown up a bit. We used to call him Junior because he was a baby about everything. But he’s really grown up in the last nine months. We’re still going to call him Junior.”
