RC Royalty goes the route in the Valley Victory

TORONTO, October 22, 2005 – RC Royalty ($5.90, $4.00, $2.90) went right to the front from the word ‘go’ in the C$555,485 Valley Victory for two-year-old trotters Saturday night at Woodbine, and the son of Credit Winner never trailed, gapping out the field for a 5½-length victory in 1:58.2 over the sloppy track.

Majestic Son ($7.40, $6.90) and driver Rick Zeron raced overland for much of the mile and finished second, bottoming the $48.90 exactor. With Mark MacDonald in the race bike, Garlands Dream ($18.80) was 8¼ lengths back in third, completing the $772.50 triactor.

Global Glide, the 7-5 post time favorite, broke after leaving the gate from post 10 with driver Ron Pierce and wasn’t a factor in the race.

RC Royalty cut the fractions in :28.1, :58.4 and 1:28, respectively, before trotting back to his life’s mark for the second consecutive time.

“He likes to race up front and is comfortable there,” said Dan Daley, RC Royalty’s driver and trainer. “I didn’t really have to ‘honk’ him out of there really hard. We were stepping, but he was on cruise pretty good and then I got a second quarter pretty cheap.

“I kept backing him until just before I headed into the last turn,” said Daley, who also commented that the colt is being pointed to the Matron and the Breeders Crown. “He can trot the turn so well that I thought on a nasty night where speed hasn’t been holding that I’d better get some real estate – and he can get away from a horse pretty quick.”

Owned by Raymond Campbell of Belchertown, Massachusetts, RC Royalty, who is out of the Balanced Image mare Stockholm Image, now has a seasonal record of 8-1-1 from 11 starts.
