Jalopy tuned up

Jalopy, the favorite in the World Trotting Derby for fillies, is coming off a win in the $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks on August 6 and a short vacation following that win.
“She got five days off after the Hambletonian Oaks” explained trainer Jonas Czernyson. “She didn’t really have any races after the Oaks, so we decided to leave her in New Jersey (where Czernyson’s stable is based) for a while. She’s been at The Red Mile since August 20. I wanted to try to race her over a clay track, so she was supposed to race at The Red Mile (in Lexington, Kentucky) on Friday and then we got rained out and then again on Saturday. But I did train her over the track there on Saturday night and she was pretty good. She trained a good mile. She should be tight enough.
“I was a little afraid of what would happen after the World Trotting Derby, so we tried to get her to gain some weight. She’s funny that way – she looks a little ribby, but then again, she’s got a bit of a belly. Jalopy will ship out of the Red Mile at about 9 am on Thursday and arrive at DuQuoin in the early afternoon.
