Hamburg, NY — In the final of the Chautauqua Pacing Series for colts and geldings at Buffalo Raceway, Chautauqua Worms, owned and trained by Ed Newell of Hamburg, New York, won the winner’s share of the $7,500 purse in 2:02.2 over a track rated sloppy.

“Give all the credit to the horse,” said winning driver Steve Green. “He’s very handy and will sprint for home in the stretch.”

Coming in second was Tosboynamdsue with reinsman Kris Rickert in the sulky. The heavy betting favorite Broadway Cardshark finished third.

Chautauqua Worms paid $8.60 to win.

In Saturday’s $7,200 Open Pace, Michael Scores won for the third time this season for owner Sandra Compton of East Bethany, New York. This four-year-old Held For Ransom gelding is trained by Jim Compton and was driven by Kevin Cummings.

“He raced nice considering the track condition,” said Kevin. “The track was really bad by the time we got out there. The most important thing is he got the job done.”

Michael Scores paid $3.00 to win and was timed in 1:59.1. Coming in second was Dreamin’s Esquire with Jack Flanigen aboard. Wonderbar Hanover with Mike Pokornowski rounded out this threesome.
