FREEHOLD, NJ – – Salerno-trezza Partners’ Carlspur, with Steve Salerno in the sulky, made every pole a winning one in the featured $15,000 Open handicap for pacers at Freehold Raceway on Saturday.
Carlspur cut fractions of 28, 57, 1:25.4 and finished one-half length in front in a final time of 1:54.3. A late-arriving Spandrel Hanover (Dan Dube) rallied and finished a close second. It was another length and one-quarter back to How Forever Feels (David Miller) in third.
The victory was the second in eight outings this year for Carlspur. The nine-year-old Carlsbad Cam stallion, a trainee of Anthony Salerno, returned $6.60 as the post time favorite.
