Announcer George Miller Dies at age 89

George Miller, who was the announcer at Saratoga Harness for 24 years, died after a long illness in Springfield, Missouri on February 25.

In addition to calling the races at Saratoga, Miller also announced for the Schenectady Blue Jays and for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute hockey team. Miller also kepts statistics for Saratoga racing and helped to create The Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame. He was inducted into that Hall in 1989.

Miller started his career at Saratoga, working in the publicity department, in 1947 and was also a patrol judge before becoming announcer. He also called races occasionally at Vernon Downs, where he called Adios Harry’s world record 1:55 mile, as well as Baltimore Raceway, Maywood Park, Phoenix Trotting Park, Brandywine, Buffalo and Harrington Raceways.

Funeral information is not known but will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
