Spandrel Hanover captures main event at Freehold

FREEHOLD, NJ – – Durazzano Stable Associates’ Spandrel Hanover led from start to finish to capture the featured $15,000 Open pace at Freehold Raceway on Saturday.

Spandrel Hanover was quickly driven to the lead from post five by Dan Dube and set fractions of 27.3, 56.2, 1:24.2 before stopping the timer in 1:53.3 for the mile. Yankee Landa (Howard Parker) waged a long, first-over battle from the midway point of the mile but finished three-quarters of a length behind Spandrel Hanover. Matt Hershey (Stephane Bouchard) checked in third, one length behind the winner.

Spandrel Hanover, a seven-year-old No Nukes gelding trained by Yves Corbin, collected his third win in eight starts this year. He returned $5.20 to win as the betting favorite.
