Shutupandkissme again in Mares Open

by Keith Gisser, assistant publicity director, Northfield Park

Northfield, OH — Paul Gillenwater’s Shutupandkissme won her second straight Northfield Park Mares Open with a grinding first over effort to post a 1:551 win over a fast closing M D Jewel. Early Leader Magic Sugar finished third.

Magic Sugar got the early lead and posted fractions of :271, :564 and 1:253. Shutupandkissme was out at the three/eighths pole and was on near even terms with the leader at the half. The two continued to battle with “Dolly,” taking control for driver Tony Hall as they headed into the final turn. That allowed M D Jewel, who had been in the pocket to angle out and challenge in the stretch.

Mark Gillenwater trains his father’s homebred six-year-old daughter of Threefold–Hot Lips Wilco. The win was her sixth in 30 seasonal starts as she pushed her 2004 bankroll to $39,995. She has earned $331,842 in her career.
