Pompano Beach, FL — Malabarbarian ($68.40, $27.00, $8.60) ended his 20-race winless streak with an upset victory at odds of 33-1 in defeating the winningest horse at Pompano Park this year, Tarport Mark ($6.00, $5.00), in the third race trot on Friday.

Driven by Ted Bowman, Malabarbarian followed pacesetter Tarport Mark the entire mile, pulling to the lead with just ten yards to the finish to win by a neck in 2:013. New York Winner ($4.60) was third.

It was the maiden victory for Malabarbarian, a five-year-old gelding who is trained and co-owned by Veral Bowman and Inge and Frank Smith of Deerfield Beach, Florida.

ICU N ($10.40) was the pocket-rocket for driver John Kakaley in the ninth race Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace, getting a perfect two hole trip behind Hyde Park Hussie N (Mickey McNichol) and then scooting away in mid-stretch for a one and three-quarter length triumph in 1:554. Brooklets Hanna (Terry McIntyre) was third.

It was the seventh win this year for ICU N, a four-year-old mare by Camluck, who is trained by Gordon Norris and is owned by Diane Norris and Clifford Grundy of Howell, Michigan.

Midgie puts streak on the line

Midgie puts his five race winning streak on the line Saturday in the fifth race Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park.

Starting from post eight, Midgie sports 10 wins this year for the Knockout Stable of Margate, trainer Jim McDonald and driver Wally Hennessey and can tie Tarport Mark as the winningest horse this year at Pompano Park with a victory. He is listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite.
