Michigan Election Board Appoves Ballot Measure

The Michigan Board of State Canvassers has voted to allow a proposal on the November ballot that would require voter endorsement on both the state and local level before any expansion of gambling could be permitted, according to the Thoroughbred Times’ web site.

The measure is opposed by racing interests in the state and they will likely seek an injunction to keep the measure from being placed on the ballot. Track representatives contend that language in the ballot proposal was ambiguous and voters who signed forms in favor of it may not have fully understood it.
