Brokaw makes news with win in debut

Freehold, NJ — Brokaw — the horse, not the anchorman — made headlines by winning his first career start in a $10,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes Green Acres race at Freehold Raceway on Wednesday.

Brokaw, a two-year-old pacing colt by Western Ideal, out of the Jate Lobell mare Network Anchor, came from behind to win the second race at the central New Jersey oval.

Brokaw, who is owned by Adam Victor and Son Stable, won by three-quarters of a length and covered the mile in 2:012 with Stephane Bouchard in the sulky.

Sent postward at odds of 14-1, the Noel Daley-trainee rewarded his supporters with a win mutuel of $30.80.
