Ranger wins another five at Rockingham

by Lynne Snierson, publicity director, Rockingham Park

Salem, NH — The weather isn’t the only thing that’s very hot at Rockingham Park these days. Top driver Bruce Ranger kept his amazing streak alive by winning another five races on the Friday afternoon card.

Ranger’s five victories in 11 drives pushed his total to 123 wins on the season with 65 percent of the 100-program meet just completed. He remains right on pace to smash the Rockingham record of 145 wins by a driver in a single harness racing season. Fittingly, it was Ranger who set the milestone during last season’s 100-program meet.

The Coors Light defending Driver of the Year at Rockingham, Ranger has now won at least one race on every day he has competed and he has mostly multiple-win days. On July 17, he smashed his own Rockingham record (six) for most wins on a single card, either Thoroughbred or Standardbred, when he posed for winner’s circle pictures eight times. The following day, he came right back with seven more wins.

Also on Friday, David Ingraham was named the Coors Light Driver of the Week. In Ingraham’s honor, Capitol Distributors of Concord, NH donated $150 to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation as the weekly contribution. At season’s end, the distributor will donate $1,250 in the name of the Coors Light Driver of the Year to the SRF.

Live racing resumes on Saturday with another 11 race program and post time is 1:05 p.m.
