Distaffers in Indiana spotlight

by Mike Wandishin, for Indiana Downs

Shelbyville, IN — What Indiana Downs’ weekly Filly and Mare Open lacks in numbers, five, it makes up for in talent as a short but quality-laden field will face the starter in the ninth race on Friday evening.

Artistic Vision, the veteran classmaster, drew the outside post here after a second best effort in Midnight Jewel’s track record setting blowout last week. This week driver Joe Essig, Jr. will once again handle the lines for this daughter of Artsplace. After getting away slowly last week this one paced a final half in :54 flat to circle all but the winner. Trainer Bret Shultz sends out this one for owners Charles, Julie and Francene Nash of Lexington, Kentucky.

Are Those Real, owner Senia Lawson’s pride and joy, starts from the four post here and was another that simply got too far back last week. This week the shorter field should allow driver Jeff Cullipher to stay closer to the leader and Are Those Real also paced a :54 back half last week.

Leave Me Cammy, fresh off a victory over Indiana Sires Stake foes on Sunday, has the three hole for trainer Alvin Miller. This four-year-old daughter of Expensive Cam is owned by Martin Yoder and Don Irvine, Jr. will drive.

Secret Dial, from the Eash Racing Stable, has post two and Don Eash handles the driving assignment. This one closed strongly in her last to just miss against the above-mentioned Leave Me Cammy.

Fall Miracle completes the field and this one will go over the $200,000 mark in lifetime earnings Friday evening. Summit Pacing Acres LLC owns this classy five-year-old daughter of Mark Johnathan and Byron Hooley trains. Walter Haynes, Jr. drives.

In the co-feature, Cripplecreek Trixi drops in class and drew the rail here after missing a couple of starts and is the tepid 3-1 morning line choice in the seventh race for driver Brian Carpenter.

One to watch in here could be Taylor Wailer, who will start from the second tier post 10, and has been facing some of Chicago’s top female pacers this season.

The all filly and mare card begins at 6:55 p.m. (CDT).
