Pacific Sonata scores at EPR

by Scott Waddell, publicity director, Exhibition Park

Saint, John, NB — Pacific Sonata, owned by Dr. Ian Moore of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and William Shearer of Bedford, Nova Scotia, showed he will be a factor in this year’s Maritime free for all circuit as he toyed with his five rivals on Saturday afternoon at Exhibition Park, winning in 2:054 on a track that was rated at least six seconds off.

Sonata carved out fractions of :291, 1:003, and 1:332 before drawing away in the 2:054 win over a sloppy track. Bev C Down stayed with the pacer for most of the mile, but in the end was no match. Come On Scoot was third.

In other news of the day, Wayne Watson was the only driver to record multiple wins as he scored two on the day. Charlie Burke, a Maine owned pacer had a great effort winning in 2:072 over the poor track. Wayne’s other win came with Goddess Sahbra, as the five-year-old daughter of Towner’s Big Guy wired the field in 2:083.

Other winners on the day:

Dockriver Jo (Todd Tries) 2:13

Paris Dream (Earl Smith) 2:092

Woodmere Domino (Steve Mason) 2:082

Rocky Blue (Steve Mahar) 2:112

Cocagne Joey (Gerard Gallant) 2:112

Notch One Out (Mike Stevenson) 2:113

Katahdin Country (Mark Haig) 2:101

Also worthy of mention was the win by Notch One Out was the 74th of the 12-year-old’s career, and he shows no signs of slowing down.
