A bit of Hooliganism in Open Trot at Northfield

by Keith Gisser, director of publicity, Northfield Park

Northfield, OH — Despite the Women’s World Cup kicking off Monday, it wasn’t soccer hooligans but Ron and Linda Randall’s Rose Run Hooligan making headlines, as he returned to Northfield on Monday night (September 10) and won the $8,500 Open Trot with an impressive first-over effort.

The 4-year-old Corleone horse posted a 1:57.3 win to best favored Lucca’s Revenge by 1-1/4 lengths, with Oneforthemaster finishing third. Ron Randall trains and drives Rose Run Hooligan, who has now banked $157,510 in his career, but has raced just 11 times in the past two years.

Twelve drivers visited the winner’s circle on Monday, with only leading pilot Aaron Merriman able to post a two-win effort.
